News Releases
For farmers and contractors with large areas, Fendt offers a new series of Fendt Slicers as mower combinations. The range is extended by two smooth running butterfly mowers with different conditioners. Technical innovations include a newly developed cutter bar, a new Eco Mode and the innovative DUO Drive for the roller conditioner.
The Fendt Slicer 860 and 960 rear-mounted mowers with weight-optimised design were introduced in 2021 are now joined by the Fendt Slicer 860 rear-mounted mower in the variant with a tine conditioner, as well as with a roller conditioner.
New conditioners for Fendt Slicer 860
Especially in short harvesting windows, the use of a rear mower with conditioner shortens the wilting process. The Fendt Slicer 860 KC with a new tine conditioner produces an airy swath, works at a reduced speed and therefore increased fuel efficiency. The tine conditioner has been adapted to the new cutter bar and the components optimised to further increase service life. The longer tines ensure high throughput even in heavy and damp crops. For more precise control of the wilting process, the angle of the counter comb has been adjusted. In addition, the comb height adjustment lever is now easier to adjust.
The Fendt Slicer 860 RC is equipped with a roller conditioner for gentle conditioning in leafy crops, such as legumes. The RC DUO Drive direct drive is also available as an option for the Fendt Slicer 860 RC. Both rollers are driven to achieve a high throughput even in heavy and moist crops. The lower roller is driven directly via the spur gear, the upper movable roller is driven synchronously via a sophisticated interplay of gears and universal joints. This precisely and evenly controls the drive, even in challenging harvesting conditions, and tight time windows can be exploited to the full. The contact pressure can be adjusted without loss of force according to the forage and weather conditions by means of a continuously adjustable spring. In addition, a spring-loaded safety device protects against damage caused by foreign objects.
Easy to pull under variable conditions
Developed for a wide range of operating conditions, the Fendt Slicer 860 KC and the Fendt Slicer 860 RC also feature the TurboLift hydropneumatic cutter bar relief system and specially shaped extension arms for greater freedom of movement. The floating cut reduces the contact pressure and guides the mower precisely along the contours of the ground. This keeps the contaminants in the feed to a minimum, protects the soil and reduces fuel consumption.
Thanks to the increased pendulum travel of -19° to +30°, the mower works precisely even in undulating terrain. Matched to the width of the front mower and the overlap to the rear mower, the Fendt Slicer is adjusted in working width via two pins without shortening the PTO shaft.
Safely on the ground and in transport as well as convenient maintenance
Designed for compact mounting, the mower's centre of gravity is low and close to the tractor. This increases safety during road transport and the transport height is less than 4 m. The integrated compensation cylinders prevent rocking and guarantee high ground clearance even at the headland.
The Fendt EasySwing mechanical collision safety system prevents serious damage from stones and other objects. In the event of a collision, the mower unit swerves upwards to the rear and then swings back into the working position under its own weight. Light damage is prevented by robust plastic bumpers.
Optional hydraulically folding safety guards are available for the Fendt Slicer 860 rear mower meaning the driver doesn't have to leave the cab when moving between fields. This considerably shortens the set-up time in the field. Drivers can lock the front guard in different positions with the help of a lever. This facilitates access to the cutter bar for blade changes making maintenance work quick and easy.
Both butterfly mowers are equipped with a tool box and a quick-change blade tool as standard. The tool independently holds the mowing disc in the open position so that the blade can be changed with both hands. This reduces downtime.
New spur gear cutter bar with large discs - flexible and low-wear
When developing the new spur gear cutter bar, the focus was on durability, high efficiency and a flat design. The robustly designed cutter bar combines high throughput with a steady flow of forage even in challenging conditions.
For a straight power curve with high efficiency, the gears for driving the mower discs are arranged in a row. The large gears reduce the circulation time and thus the wear and tear. At the transfer points, 3.5 teeth interlock. This increases improves power transmission along the cutter bar. At the same time, the arrangement and design of all components in combination ensure smooth running and noise-reduced operation of the cutter bar. The drive units for the mower discs are bolted throughout and are characterised by a long service life and stability.
The fully robot-welded construction of the trough and lid ensures maximum strength and increases the service life of the mower unit. Two lateral extensions and thick-walled material ensure high horizontal dimensional stability of the cutter bar. The maintenance-friendly design means that the mower unit, cutter blade and skids can be quickly replaced if necessary. The special connection of the blades to the disc allows a rotation of 360° and thus the blades can be used on either side.
Specially developed large mowing discs reduce the number of mowing modules across the entire working width. This increases the efficiency. The large overlap between the cutting discs increases the cutting area and ensures a clean cut. At the same time, the special profile of the mowing disc develops a suction effect that lifts the crop before it is cut and ensures an even cut. Thanks to this flow effect, even heavy crops are transported cleanly to the conditioner, conditioned and then deposited.
The drive concept, which is consistently designed for efficient use of power, allows a reduced PTO speed of 850 rpm under good conditions and thus fuel-saving operation. The overload protection and the integrated free wheel in the gearbox prevent damage to the machine. This saves fuel and protects the components and the environment.
The Fendt Slicer is available to order from July 2022.
